Executive Chef, Hearsay Gastro Lounge
Born and raised in Houston’s Fifth Ward, Kelly Boyd is the third generation of his family to be involved in food hospitality. Boyd recalls watching his mom in the kitchen when he was a young boy and says it resonated within him.
While helping his uncle and cousin make gumbo, someone said they wanted Bordelaise sauce and Boyd watched his uncle whip it up, “and it definitely peaked my interest,” he says. “I started to see my career in my head.”
Having apprenticed in France for a year-and-a-half, Boyd returned home and enrolled into the Culinary Arts Program at the Art Institute of Houston.
Boyd’s style of cooking definitely has a Southern bent, influenced by his roots, with family coming from Waller County and Matagorda, Texas. This style fits perfectly with the history and flavor of Hearsay Gastro Lounge, which has been in the Historic Market Square District since 2009.
